Everyday, 8 million pieces of plastic make their way into the ocean – amounting to a total of about 269 000 tonnes – and they will never degrade. Plastic lighters are a huge contributor to plastic ocean waste, ending up in the bellies of marine animals, and finally into our own food system
It functions using a fire-steel rod and a striker to light a piece of cotton string. The string is extinguished by pulling it through the tube it’s in, removing its oxygen supply. The lighter is completely toxin-free, the fire-steel and string are replaceable as they run out, and all pieces will degrade over time.
